Complicated and Surprising

Last week, Booking Through Thursdays asked a two-part question:

  1. Do YOU like books with complicated plots and unexpected endings?
  2. What book with a surprise ending is your favorite? Or your least favorite?

I like stories with complicated plots as long as they are not too complicated to follow. If it needs me to read a page-filled footnote ((The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov and Discworld series by Terry Pratchett are exceptions.)) or a ‘scientific journal’ to make me grasp the concept you want to convey, I will put it down (or in cases drop). Footnotes are okay as long you make it worthwhile for me to read it. Unexpected endings are very much welcome too, as long as they don’t become a cop-out or leave me more than wanting.

The second question is a bit harder for me, as nothing comes to mind quickly other than one of my recently finished books, [amazonify]0061712825::text::::Clash of the Demons[/amazonify], from the Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney. Events leading up to this book already gave hints, but the ending was still unexpected and good.

And that’s my short and sweet answer to last week’s BTT. I couldn’t wait for this week’s BTT yet. LOL.
