The Past Year and Moving Onwards

This is a very late year-end review of my reading pursuits.

Around last week a year ago, I started my own book blog from scratch. Reading and writing, activities familiar yet slightly different from what I regularly do everyday. Also an activity that I thought would help me expand my vocabulary again, since I have lost touch with it since I started coding.

And it was a good start too. By March, I was already at 20% of the 52 books in 52 weeks challenge. But real life happened, so I wasn’t able to keep up with the momentum. Thus forcing me to resign from that challenge, stopping at book #30.

I also felt glad that last year’s challenge (and probably partly because of the blog), I’ve read more books than the year before that. And broke my record of most number of read books in a year! (Oh 2004, you were a year to remember)

The number speaks for themselves.

No worries, I told my self. I’d start taking my time reading books that I have when I can. Hence the new title of this book blog, since I was planning to really take it easy. Especially since “Book Pile” isn’t appropriate to the “mound” or “hill” of books I have yet to read, or worse put on hold (which means I may have to start over).

So yeah, I was planning to take it easy right? But in a week after I got my new Android smartphone, I realized I can read ebooks in this nifty gadget. A story I can tell for another day, but to summarise… I’ve been sleeping late most nights reading books lately. And I have yet to make a dent off the unread book mound.

This is looking to be an interesting year in terms of that.

  1. Oooh nifty theme and name! ๐Ÿ™‚

Like what I told a reader friend last year, I don’t think the number of books read in a year really matters if you’re more into the quality and variety of books you’re reading. 31 is still a good number. ๐Ÿ™‚

One thing I noticed that helped improve my reading habits was being a part of a book club. But that also meant buying more books because of their recommendations. LOL.

And I definitely know about reading on gadgets. I read a lot using my iPod — during a commute, before I sleep, and even while brushing my teeth! It helps me read absolutely anywhere, especially since I don’t have a reading light for my Kindle. ^^
